Painting insights: Dancing digits

Painting insights: Dancing digits

Have you ever stopped to notice the majesty of foxgloves? (or 'Digitalis' to give them their Latin name). They seem to come from nowhere and rise gracefully towards the sky with a tower of deep pink flowers. It's as if they are reaching for the heavens with their many magenta fingers.

I love them because they are full of contrast. They look so charming, yet they contain a poison. They have soft silvery stems, but are surprisingly robust. Gracefully and elegantly they dance in a breeze, yet they can still withstand a coastal gale.

There is a misconception that things of beauty are somehow 'less', but 'beauty' is quiet power and that's another reason why I loved painting these foxgloves.
