Working on some new things in the studio and recently I have been enjoying the addition of trees as a subject.
There are not many trees here on the Pembrokeshire coast because of the salt laden winds, at least not big ones. Where they do manage to grow they tend to be gnarled and sculpted by the wind into strange bent over shapes. When you find occasional pockets of trees they seem to have all the more presence for their lack of companions and seem all the more precious.
This painting is really a study, but may potentially inform some larger paintings, or even a workshop, we’ll just have to see where it leads!
