Painting insights: The seeds you plant

Painting insights: The seeds you plant

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson

When I’m out in the landscape, I’m always working in some quiet way. I may not be painting, sketching, or even taking a photograph, but I am always observing and absorbing what is around me. These moments, colours and shifting passages of light settle somewhere deeper, and later become the seeds of ideas for paintings in the studio.

This piece grew from that way of seeing. It reflects the gentle, ongoing process of gathering, noticing and trusting that even the smallest impression may return in time as something meaningful. The landscape does not need to be captured all at once. Sometimes it is enough simply to walk, to look, and to let it leave its mark.

Painted in oil on canvas board, The Seeds You Plant holds that sense of memory taking root, shaped by time, atmosphere and reflection.
