Painting insights: A sense of summer

Painting insights: A sense of summer

In trying to abstract the feeling of summer light and heat I had so much fun with this landscape painting. Firstly in choosing the bright colour palette and then in delicately blending the paint to a soft haze. Then I wanted to contrast that softness with an injection of freshness and energy in the foreground.

It can take a little courage to put down a bold stroke of paint and just leave it alone. I made big swipes with a palette knife and found the delicious combination of yellow and pink in the foreground so satisfying that I couldn't bear to mess with it!

This painting is currently showing in 'The Second Collection' group exhibition, and is available for sale from Beecher's Gallery.
