You will also learn about colour relationships. controlling colour temperature and how to use warm & cool variations, choosing a palette to suit your subject (and budget!) and how to use optical colour mixing and glazing for stunning effects. Save yourself hours of frustration and learn how to make your paintings sing, even if you THINK you already understand colour!

What you'll need:

A computer or tablet (the bigger the screen the better!) and a good internet connection. A space to work near your computer anything from the kitchen table to a dedicated art studio is fine as long as you have a bit of space to work and can see the screen. (More info on this will be provided when you book).

  • Bring a sketchbook (or separate sheets) of heavyweight cartridge paper that will take paint without crinkling too much.
  • You’ll also need some acrylic paint in a minimum of 4 colours: primary yellow, cyan, magenta + white.
Of course if you have other colours we will experiment with these too, but there is NO need to buy more than the above.
  • You’ll need a water pot, some paper towel, and some kind of flat palette to mix on.
  • Finally, you’ll need some brushes, preferably including at least 1 synthetic flat brush 1/2”- 3/4”

About me:

I’m Sarah Jane Brown, a contemporary landscape painter, from Wales in the UK and I LOVE what I do! I also love teaching; sharing my knowledge, skills and enthusiasm in a clear and simple way that enables students to really progress quickly.

I understand very well that learning new things can be everything from ‘a bit challenging’ to ‘totally terrifying’ so I promise to treat you with kindness and respect. I will explain everything clearly and give you fun exercises that you can achieve no matter what your starting point.

My sincere wish is that you’ll learn essential skills, techniques and developmental thinking to be able to take your painting forward into a lifelong passion of your own
