I have launched a new workshop series this year exploring landscape painting. The series starts with a 2-day Interpreting the Landscape workshop and the workshops become more advanced as the year progresses. You can pick and choose between the different workshops, or even book them all for the full experience:
Interpreting the Landscape | 2-day workshop | £250
Gain a fearless approach to landscape painting and learn the skills to enable you to simplify what you see and create strong paintings that are uniquely yours. We'll combine some work outdoors with work in the studio. Clear instruction with demos, along with practical exercises and learning through playful experimentation, using acrylic paint (and other optional materials).
Coastal Landscapes | 3-day workshop | £375
This 3-day workshop focuses on the different elements of painting the coastal landscape - land, sea and sky - during which we will work on multiple paintings. I'll help you free up your landscape / seascape paintings and enliven them with colour and movement. You will gain a range of painting skills and the confidence to use them fearlessly! Clear instruction with demos, along with practical exercises and learning through experimentation using acrylics.
Loosen up your Landscapes | 3-day workshop | £375
This workshop will focus on simplifying elements of the landscape to enable individual interpretation and self expression. Ideal for representational painters who would like to loosen up their painting and venture towards more abstract work. We will begin by going out into the landscape to gather reference material, ie making sketches/studies (en plein air), taking photos and collecting other found materials. Back in the studio we'll discuss ways of using these source materials creatively. You will also receive prompts to get you thinking differently about the subject and your entire approach to painting. Working simultaneously on multiple paintings, we will build up a body of work that will give you practical ways to transform your landscape paintings and set you on the path to further developing your paintings in your own unique style.
Painting workshops take place with me in my spacious and well equipped studio on the Pembrokeshire coast. SJB Fine Art Studio is located just off the main road between Newgale Beach, and the village of Solva.
All materials and equipment are provided, so all you need to do is turn up with a willingness to learn and have fun!
Complimentary refreshments are available throughout each session.
